The vertical disc mixer—also known as vertical mixer—is a piece of equipment that utilizes a vertical disc as its main mixing vessel and achieves material blending through the high-speed turning action of mixing teeth or arms. The machine primarily consists of a mixing disc, a discharge outlet, mixing arms, a frame, a gearbox assembly, and a drive mechanism. The inner wall of the disc is typically lined with polypropylene or stainless steel sheeting to minimize the adhesion of high-moisture, sticky materials during the mixing process.
How does a vertical disc mixer mix ingredients?
The core working principle of the vertical disc mixer can be summarized as the combination of “centrifugal throwing” and “gravity diffusion”. The main body of the equipment is a rotating disc placed vertically, with several groups of scraping plates arranged at specific angles installed on the bottom of the disc. When the motor drives the disk to rotate at a high speed, the material falls into the disk from the top feed port, is instantly taken to a high place by the material transfer plate, and is then thrown down in a parabola under the action of gravity.
In this process, tens of thousands of collisions, interpenetrations and diffusions occur between material particles, allowing different raw materials with huge differences in specific gravity to be fully intertwined. Compared with horizontal mixing, the vertical structure effectively utilizes gravity potential energy and reduces mixing dead corners. The residence time of the material in the disk can be precisely controlled by adjusting the disk speed and the height of the discharge port, and the mixing uniformity can reach more than 98%.
In terms of transmission, the electric motor drives the high-torque cycloidal pinwheel reducer to run, and the reducer drives the main shaft, and the main shaft drives the mixing teeth to stir the material. This transmission method has compact structure, smooth operation and low noise.
