The chain crusher (also known as a chain pulverizer) is a type of impact crushing equipment featuring high-speed rotating, wear-resistant chains as its core crushing components. Distinct from hammer crushers and cage crushers, it employs a dual-action crushing mechanism—combining chain impact with internal wall impact—enabling it to efficiently process hard lump materials, high-moisture sticky materials, and fibrous materials.
The machine features a simple structure, primarily consisting of a crushing chamber, main shaft, rotor disc, wear-resistant chains, drive motor, inlet, and outlet.
Working principle of chain crusher
The working principle of the chain crusher is not complicated, but it is very efficient. The drive motor drives the main shaft to rotate at high speed through the coupling, and the rotor disk on the main shaft drives the chain to rotate synchronously. The chain speed can reach 800 to 1200 rpm.
After the material enters the crushing chamber from the feed port, it is first violently impacted by the high-speed rotating chain and is instantly broken into smaller pieces. Then, under the action of centrifugal force, the material is thrown towards the inner wall of the casing, causing secondary impact crushing. During the falling process, it collides with the lower chain again. After multiple impacts and extrusions, uniform particles are finally formed and discharged from the discharge port. The crushing uniformity can reach more than 95%.

Organic fertilizer production: Used to process materials such as compacted organic fertilizer, fermented cake blocks, straw, and livestock manure. Vertical chain crushers are the preferred choice for small- and medium-sized organic fertilizer plants and livestock farms, capable of crushing materials of low to medium hardness—including fermented manure, straw, and traditional Chinese medicine residues.
Mining industry: Suitable for crushing ore and slag, thereby facilitating resource recovery and utilization. Large-scale models with capacities of 30 to 100 tons per hour can process large material chunks with particle sizes up to 300 mm.
Chemical and building materials industries: Used to crush lump raw materials and recycled material (oversize returns), ensuring uniform feed for subsequent processing steps. Horizontal chain crushers can crush undried products—such as ordinary superphosphate (containing 14% moisture and 6% free acid) and various compound phosphate-potash fertilizers.
Environmental protection: Used to process materials like glass, ceramics, and bricks found in municipal solid waste, enabling waste recycling and reuse.
